Bima City, Berita11.com— Thousands stundents gathered in Bima City, West Nusa Tenggara Province, despite the coronavirus pandemic, to protest against the Indonesian government's new labour laws.
Thousands of students stormed into the local parliament building in Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara on Monday (Oktober 12). The students were protesting a new law passed last week (Omnibus Law).
The students were reportedly picketing against the Omnibus Law due claims of it removing rights and protections for labourers in Indonesia and favouring international corporations.
Initially the student demonstration was peaceful, but clashes broke out when demonstrators tried to push through the police barricade.
Some protesters then tried to attack the police by throwing stones and water bottles. The police responded with arrested who students who were involved in riots moment.
Sub-Regional Police Bima City, AKBP Haryo Tedjo Wicaksono, who came to the location of the action, wanted to students convey their aspirations, not to act anarchically. [B-12]
